Lung Cancer: Chemo - Breathless, Deteriorating

Dear Dr.Chris Teo,

Presently, I am in Penang to visit my sister in law because she is hospitalized in Penang Gleanegles Hospital due to breathlessness. She was diagnosed of lung cancer 4th stage last year and had gone through 10 times of chemotherapy but her condition does not improve but is deteriorating. I do hope that you can contact me when you are available.

Reply: If she is in the hospital now -- let the doctor takes care of her. There is nothing I can do if she is in the hospital. Chemo kills -- but if you are doing this -- no one can help. No chemo can cure 4th stage cancer anyway.

Chemo and Radiotherapy: Severe Pains and Breathing Difficulty

SY 081 is a female diagnosed with a 4 x 6 cm lung tumour. The cancer had probably spread to the brain. She underwent chemotherapy with Alimta and Carboplatin followed by radiation.

On 1 September 2010, we received this fax: SY has been having severe gastric/ abdominal pains in the past few days. Currently she is undergoing radiotherapy. The gastric pains came on after six chemos. I told her husband that this could be due to the toxicities in the GI tract. Now she has breathing problems after nine radio. What can we give her for the abdominal pains?

Reply: Radiotherapy and chemotherapy damage the lining of the guts. Breathing problem – same experience by a patient from Jakarta. After two radio – he couldn’t breathe. Don’t give her any herbs. If she dies, they are going to say that it is the herbs that kill her not the chemo or radio.

My Father Died – Tell me more – Why?

Hello Mr. Theo,

Mr.Theo a few months ago, in May 2010, I sent emails to you, I told you about pain of cancer my dad. But suddenly at the end of June Dad often choke when drinking, and also shortness of breath until my daddy died on July 5.But that makes me wonder exactly what my father esophageal cancer? Because of the Indonesian doctors also cannot confirm, only lab test results stating squamosa cell carcinoma.

Mr.Theo may I know what exactly squamosa cell carcinoma? What are the symptoms? And attack on organs which parts of the human body? Whether the same with my dad, I mean whether a patient also may experience paralysis of the hands or feet on the network either partially or wholly.
S so my curiosity got the answer. Ok, mr.Teo, thanks for your empaty, I always wait your email. God Bless You

Reply: If your father already died --- why must you what to know more? Just go to the net and search for what you want to know.

Lung Cancer: Help

Dear Dr Chris,

I got your name card from my colleague and sincerely hope that you could help us. Three months ago my mum was diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer type squamous cell as per biopsy report. Doc told us its stage 3 and above

She has undergone 10 times of radiotherapy treatment and also prescribed with either chemotherapy or the drug Iressa. However we did not proceed with these 2 treatments as we’re worried over the effects of chemo and whether it’ll be effective for my mum. As for Iressa, it beyond our means - to afford the drugs. Currently my mum is only taking supplements. Her condition seem to be worsening and we’re very worried

Dr., do you see your patients in KL? My mum is having pain now and I’m not sure whether she can make the trip to Penang. Please advise how we could see you for further consultation

Thank you so much
